Work of a Primitive Indigenous Australian

SHOWN AT SEVENTH GALLERY (2018) AND PEACOCK GALLERY AND AUBURN ARTS STUDIO IN SPEAK SOFTLY, TREAD HEAVILY (2019)

Colonisers have aided in documenting the history of Australia. Early settler writings, journals and drawings have constructed the perceived understandings of Aboriginal people. Drawing from research conducted on the colonial narrative within Australian history, I have become particularly interested in the role of the coloniser and the construction of ‘the other’. Embodying the role of an anthropologist, I will examine the behaviours and understandings of non-Aboriginal people regarding Aboriginal spirituality, art and tradition.
